PAWF members visit Manipur Bhavan in Shillong Redlands

As a part of the Patriotic Writers' Forum, Manipur's tour to trace and strengthen bonds among Manipuris in Tripura, Assam and Meghalaya, its members visited the historic Manipur Bhavan (then Manipur Rajbari) in Redlands, Shillong.
Being developed as Manipur Bhavan, the Manipur Rajbari is where then Maharaja Bodhachandra stayed during the signing of the Manipur Merger Agreement with India on September 21, 1949 .
The Manipur Rajbari was handed over by the Meghalaya Government to Manipur in 2021 .
Since then, it is being developed as the Manipur State Bhavan.
The 12-member PAWF team led by its secretary, Rakesh Naorem inspected the site and the progress of the development of the Manipur Bhavan.

The team met with Yireichan Raihing, Assistant Liaison Officer at the Manipur Bhavan and presented him a Leirum Phee.
The Assistant Liaison Officer showed the team some photographs of Maharaja Bodhachandra and told the team about steps being taken up to preserve and promote the place as a historical site by the State Art and Culture Department.
The ALO also made an appeal to the team to donate historical artefacts to the Bhavan.
The team performed a religious ritual at a Iputhou Pakhangba Shanglen inside the campus.
Inspecting the site, PAWF Manipur secretary Naorem Rakesh said the Manipur Bhavan is the place where Maharaja Bodhachandra stayed during the signing of the "controversial" Merger Agreement in 1949 .
He said the team was happy to learn that the development of the Manipur Bhavan would be completed within 2 years.
