Thoubal, September 14 2023:
Students of Lamding Higher Secondary School carried out a protest today at the school premises demanding the authorities concerned to address shortage of teachers in various subjects.
Speaking to media on the sidelines of the protest, general secretary of the students' union of the school G Adison said the school was upgraded from a High School to a Higher Secondary school back in 2017 and listed for upgradation under second phase of the of the "School Phagathansi Mission" of the State Government.
But sadly, the school is yet to see any of the four deficit Biology teachers (two for Zoology and two for Botany) even after 6 years of being upgraded to a Higher Secondary school, he said.

The fate of 131 Class XI and 127 Class XII students who opted Science stream are uncertain due to the lack of teachers, he said.
Pointing out that the school had two Manipuri subject teachers earlier but one has been transferred, he also said that there is also a shortfall in the number of teachers for other subjects as well.
Since the State Government has reopened the schools, it is our earnest appeal to ensure a requisite number of teachers, he said.
The student's union had repeatedly submitted representations seeking an adequate number of teachers for the school to the Department of Education and Education Minister but they are yet to address their appeal, he said with regret.
"Considering the plight of the students, we would like to once again draw the attention of the concerned Minister and Department to look into the matter," he urged.
The student leader also added that they will further intensify the protest and even take the protest to the street if the Government fails to turn their request into action, he added.
Placards inscribed with words urging deputation of requisite teachers were also displayed during the agitation.
