Fitting tributes paid to martyrs of Thoubal Athokpam Battle

The Justice Committee on Anglo Manipuri War 1891, Martyrs & Freedom Fighters, Kangleipak (Manipur) paid floral tributes to the unsung heroes of Manipur who sacrificed their lives at the battlefield of Thoubal Athokpam against British soldiers during Anglo Manipur War 1891.The ceremony held at Koubiliya Makhong Lampak, Thoubal Athokpam was graced by Khangabok Assembly constituency MLA, Surjakumar Okram as chief guest, Justice Committee chairman, Joychandra Konthoujam as president, and Retd IPS Sarangthem Khoiranthaba (Manaobi), grandson of Sanakhaya Yaiskullakpa, RK Pralhada, DLCYC Club Athokpam president, Dr L Romendro and AIGA Club Athokpam president, Thongam Marjit as guests of honour.
As part of the ceremony, the attendees paid floral tributes to the martyrs at Arong Turel and Tengol ground memorial site and observed a two minute silence as a mark of honour for the martyrs who laid down their lives fighting for the motherland.
The committee also honoured the well wishers of the committee by presenting a traditional shawl.
Speaking at the event, chairman of Justice Committee, Joychandra Konthoujam said that the floral tribute ceremony was organised to honoured the martyrs, namely Sanakhya Yaiskullakpa, Sangoisana and 20 other Manipuri fighters who made supreme sacrifice at the battlefield of Thoubal Athokpam fighting against the mighty Britishers.
He continued that if delimitation is exercised in the State by force and AFSPA, 1958 is further extended in the whole of Manipur, the MLAs of the State must bear the responsibility of the consequences.
"When they are busy in altercation and power tussle, the State is left in despair," said Joychandra.
Stating that the people of Manipur are not against delimitation, he urged the authorities concerned to exercise delimitation only after proper NRC.
MLA Surjakumar, as the chief guest of the event emphasized the need to protect and preserve the historical significance site for the younger generation.
He also assured to extend all possible help to protect and preserve such historical sites in the interest of the people.
