Bail pleas rejected

Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West today rejected the bail application of the three different civil society organizations (CSOs) members who were arrested on the charge of having nexus with an underground outfit and instead remanded them to judicial custody.
The accused Sanasam Ibohanbi @ Ibo (48) s/o Irabanta of Singjamei Okram Leikai, Nongthongbam Bimol (63) s/o (L) Gokulchandra of Khurai Chingangbam Leikai and Yengkhom Dhiren (46) s/o Manihar of Moirangkampu Maning Leikai were produced before the Court today through video conferencing after the completion of their 10 days police custody period along with a prayer for remanding them to judicial custody.
On the other hand, legal aid counsel filed an objection to the remand prayer and prayed for their bail.
The IO of the case through APP submitted that a team of Imphal West district commando arrested Sanasam Ibohanbi on June 25 from Singjamei Okram Leikai.
During preliminary interrogation, Sanasam Ibohanbi disclosed that he is an active member of a banned underground outfit and also is working as a finance secretary of UPF.
He also revealed that he had received Rs 4,29,000 from Nongthongbam Bimol through Yengkhokpam Dhiren.
The IO further submitted that Nongthongbam Bimol and Yengkhokpam Dhiren were arrested from their respective places the next day.
On further investigation and as revealed by the arrested CSO leaders the IO of the case sent a summon to three more co- accused Thongam Bikramjit (28) s/o Leibakchao of Khekman Makha Leikai, Pebam Bishambhor (53) s/o Mani Pebam of New Keithelmanbi Moidangpok Khullen and Wahengbam Inao (L) Balahari of Bamon Kampu to appear on July 3.On examination, Thongam Bikramjit stated that he had received Rs 95 thousand from Yengkhom Dhiren.
Pebam Bishambhor and Wahengbam Inao also stated that they received Rs 50 thousand and 80 thousand respectively from Sanasam Ibohal.
Accordingly, three of them were formally arrested by observing necessary formalities and taken to six days police custody.
The IO stated that from the investigation made so far, it is evident that the accused are active members of a banned underground outfit and help in mobilizing illegal funds of the outfit to various students unions and NGO's of Manipur.
The Court then rejected the bail applications and remanded them to judicial custody.
