129th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot observed across State and beyond

Jbm/Tbl/Bpr/Hojai, September 30 2025: The 129th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot was widely observed across Manipur and beyond with activities including cleanliness drives, floral tributes, and other commemorations in honour of the revolutionary leader.

JIRIBAM

The 129th birth anniversary of Jananeta Hijam Irabot was observed with great solemnity at the Rajkumari Sanatombi Devi Vidyala School Auditorium, Jiribam on Tuesday, organized by the Jananeta Irawat Memorial Trust (JIMET), Jiribam.

The observance was graced by notable figures including Ashangbam Biren Singh, Ex-MLA.

40 Jiribam AC as chief guest; Dr Chandam Kamal Singh, Life Time president of JIMET Jiribam as functional president; Deputy Commissioner of Jiribam Krishna Kumar as special guest; Superintendent of Police Jiribam Semmi Ramror; president of AJUCA, Mutum Maipaksana Mangang; president of AJMP Sushila Devi; chairman of Manipur Autonomous Council Demand Coordination Committee, K Shantee Kumar Singh; social activist S Kamalkanta Singha as guests of honour.

The observance featured traditional dances performed by AMAWOVA, adding a cultural touch to the occasion.

Commendations and prizes were distributed to the position holders of the March past contingents, recognizing their participation and achievements.

Earlier in the morning, dignitaries paid floral tributes to the statue of Hijam Irabot at Irawat Square, Babupara.

A guard of honor was also given to the statue of Jananeta Irabot with a March past from the students of various schools of Jiribam and Jiri College and cultural troupes.

Altogether 28 contingents participated in the March past, including Jiri College Boys and Girls Contingents, NCC Unit Jiribam Higher Secondary School, and students from various schools.

The observance served as a testament to the enduring legacy of Jananeta Hijam Irabot and his contributions to the community.

Many resource persons also spoke on the contributions of Jananeta Hijam Irabat.

THOUBAL

The Kekru Yairi Club Yairipok (KYCY) marked the occasion by conducting a cleanliness drive in areas under its jurisdiction, including the crematorium of the village.

The initiative aimed to inspire younger generations to follow in the footsteps of Irawat, passing down his ideals and legacy.

Later in the evening, club members lit candles at the surrounding areas of the club and paid rich floral tributes to the portrait of Lamyanba Irabot, remembering the leader's sacrifices.

A parallel observance was also held at the Salaai Eco Tourism Park, Ukhonshang, organised by the Salaai Kanba Lup (SKL).

The event led by chairman of the SKL, Salaichaa Leichombam Gopal and SKL Ukhongshang Unit president Salaichaa Senyai, saw people paying floral tributes and recalling Irawat's contributions to society.

Elders and members of SKL, also highlighted his role in shaping Manipur's political and social movements.

At Wangjing, the Irabot Day Observation Committee, Wangjing Tentha AC, celebrated the 129th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irawat at the Wangjing Mandal Office Complex.

The event was attended by Wangjing Tentha Development Committee advisor, Retd ARCS Khundrakpam Maniton; Retd Senior Lecturers S Chaoba Singh; L Brajeshor, S Kesho; Committee chairman Th Ibocha; Senior Citizen Md Abdul Samad; Langathel GP, ex-Pradhan P Birenjit; social activist H Robindro; and Th Hemobi, who presided over the gathering.

During the programme, a large number of people from various villages of Wangjing Tentha AC, along with the dignitaries, paid floral tributes to the statue of Lamyanba Irawat.

They fondly remembered him as a visionary leader who dedicated his life to the cause of justice, equality, and social progress.

BISHNUPUR

As observed statewide, the 129th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot was celebrated today across Bishnupur district with a series of events.

The Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) marked the occasion at the Relief Camp of Loukoipat, Bishnupur Old DC Complex, with internally displaced persons who have been taking shelter at the relief camp since May, 2023 .

The programme began with floral tributes to the portrait of Lamyan Hijam Irabot.

It was attended by SSUM president Soraisham Yaima Meitei; convenor of Churachandpur Meitei United.

Committee, Moirangthem Baleshor; advisor of All Manipur Printing Technology Association, Surjit Singh; and president of Ima Leimrel Shidabi Apunba Lup Churachandpur, A Nayani; as presidium members.

Speaking at the event, SSUM president S Yaima said that the Union, following the ideology of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot, has been striving to realise his dreams for a united Manipur.

He urged collective responsibility from the youth to achieve Irabot's vision and goals.

As part of the event, SSUM also distributed notebooks to displaced students under the initiative "Empowering Education", and blankets to elderly people.

Meanwhile, the anniversary was also observed at Ngaikhong Khullen Mamang Leikai Lampak, organised by the Ngaikhong Khullen Gram Panchayat Celebration Committee.

The event was attended by former Upadhyaksha Thoubal, Takhellambam Nungshi; Administrative Committee Ngaikhong Khullen GP chairman, Moirangthem Bina; Ngaikhong Khullen Zilla Parishad member, Khwairakpam Sanamatum; along with villagers of the nine village of Gram Panchayat.

Various competitions, including march past from 9 contingents of Meira Paibis, patriotic-theme singing competition, cleanliness drive, were also organised with prizes distributed to winners.

Meanwhile, in connection with the 129th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot; a cleanliness drive covering a 3 km road stretch from Sendra entry point to Sendra was jointly carried out by Friends of Moirang (FoM) in collaboration with the Urban Forest Division.

The drive was attended by Urban Forest Division, DFO M Wungrin Lansing; FoM president M Noren; secretary of FOM Hemam Deven, along with various members of FoM and staff of Forest Department.

HOJAI, ASSAM

The 129th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irawat was also observed today at Hojai in Assam, organised jointly by the Patriotic Writers Forum (PAWF), Manipur and Manipuri Women Literary & Cultural Organisation (MWLCO).

The programme also featured the presentation of the prestigious Irabot Lifetime Achievement Award 2025 to three renowned personalities.

The event was attended by PAWF Manipur, president Naoroibam Khamba Luwang as chief guest; MWLCO president Huirongbam Kunjabati as functional president; and Dakhin Jogojan High retd Headmaster Wakram Dwijamoni and Dolpukhri Development Block Hojai, chairman Laishom Ashok as guests of honour.

The event commenced with the gathering led by the presidium members offering floral tributes to the statue of Hijam Irabot.

The main event was later held at Cambridge English School, Nandapur, Hojai, where members of MWLCO presented the song "Thangol Adu Maya Thangu Thouna", marking the formal beginning of the day's observance.

During the event, the Irabot Lifetime Achievement Award 2025 was conferred upon three eminent personalities, including Social Activist Thangjam Irabot Singh of Hojai, Social Cultural Activist Laitonjam Akham, and renowned writer from Manipur, Yaiskul Khwairakpam.

The award includes a cash prize of Rs 5000 each, shawl, citation, and a memento.

PASIGHAT

The 129th birth anniversary of Hijam Irabot was also observed today at the Conference Hall of NIELIT Pasighat, Arunachal.

The event witnessed floral tributes, messages from dignitaries, and recollections of Irbot's invaluable contributions to social justice, equality, and unity.

Patron K Birmangol and finance Secretary W Lokeshwor also conveyed their messages, calling upon society to uphold Irabot's ideals and pass them on to future generations.
