Imphal, August 21 2025:
The Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has urged the relevant authorities to take disciplinary action against Government school teachers who are involved in private coaching centres.
In a statement issued by its president Hijam Roshan, the Federation expressed concern that such engagements, driven by personal interest, would compromise the quality of education in Government schools.
The MSF stated that the Education Department (S) had notified "The Manipur Coaching Institute (Control and Regulation) Rules, 2022" on July 8, 2022, which explicitly stipulates that Government school teachers working in private coaching centres would face disciplinary action.
Urging the authorities to crack down on Government teachers who open or work at private coaching centers, either discreetly or openly, instead of focusing on teaching their own students to help them compete effectively, the MSF said that they found some Government teachers working at private coaching centres during a drive today.
The MSF had issued a press release on July 14 last, calling for an end to Government school teachers' involvement in private coaching centers, but their demand had been disregarded, it said.
Claiming that they found two teachers of Johnstone Higher Secondary School, two of CC Higher Secondary School, and one of Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School working at private coaching centres during a raid today, the MSF urged the authorities to take disciplinary action against them.
Additionally, the MSF stated that an Associate Professor working at Oriental College was found operating a private coaching centre at his residence.
