Imphal, February 21 2025:
Many including MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, student bodies, Relief Committee Manipur and the candidates for AIIMS Common Recruitment Exam (CRE) have asked for an exam centre at Imphal.
About 40 candidates of the recruitment exam came to RIMS at around 10.30 am today and talked with the Deputy Director.
Highlighting the inaccessibility of National Highways to Meitei people, the candidates pointed out the difficulties they would face if the exam centre is given outside the State.
They urged the Deputy Director to talk with the relevant authority and see that an exam centre is given at Imphal.
After listening to the concerns of the candidates, the RIMS Deputy Director assured that he would talk with the relevant authority on the matter.
Speaking on behalf of six student bodies at SUK office this afternoon, N Dhanakumar Meitei said that no exam centre has been allotted at Imphal for CRE being conducted by AIIMS even though the CRE includes 250 posts of RIMS.
Whereas the youths of Manipur have been hit hard by unemployment because of the 21 months old violent crisis, it will be impossible for the candidates from Manipur to go to other States by road to appear in the recruitment exam, he said.
Pointing out that flight fares have also been inflated, Dhanakumar urged the authority concerned to hold the written exam at Imphal too.
He said that the six student bodies would not remain silent if their plea goes unheeded.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha Member Leishemba Sanajaoba has written to the AIIMS (New Delhi) Director seeking an alternate arrangement so that the CRE could be held at Imphal too.
Since most of the candidates are from unemployed and economically weaker sections of the society (including pregnant women and lactating mothers), they are facing problems managing air tickets, Sanajaoba said.
On the other hand, the Relief Committee Manipur has written to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to see that an exam centre of AIIMS CRE is allotted at Imphal too so that the people of Manipur, specially IDPs now living in relief camps can appear in the recruitment exam.
