Imphal, September 08 2026: The Manipur Drivers' Association (MDA) has urged the State Government to develop the road connecting Tadubi in Manipur with Kedima in Nagaland, an important bypass route of National Highway-2 (Imphal-Dimapur), to facilitate the smooth movement of transporters.

Addressing the media at Kwakeithel today, MDA assistant general secretary Khundongbam Sangeet-charan said the Nagaland Government had maintained the road on its side in good condition but the stretch of the road falling within the State is in pretty bad shape.

Sangeetcharan emphasised that repairing the bypass road with proper quality control would significantly reduce the hardships faced by transporters.

He added that the Tadubi-Kedima bypass road was repaired by the MDA in association with the Senapati District Truck Owners' Association, Senapati District Truck Drivers' Union, All Manipur Gorkha Drivers' Welfare Association, Dimapur District Truck Owners' Welfare Union and Kohima District Truck Drivers and Owners' Association after a landslide struck Phesama in Nagaland and cut off Imphal-Dimapur road last year.

Stating that transporters had faced severe hardship in transporting goods to Manipur along the Imphal-Dimapur road following the landslide at Phesama, he added that Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, who is the MLA of Mao Assembly Constituency, extended maximum assistance in repairing the bypass road and making it suitable for the movement of transporters.

The bypass road has become increasingly important as it provides a shorter route to Kohima, he said and added that the condition of the road , however, has deteriorated despite the MDA and other transporters' bodies repairing the road from time to time.

Further stating that the MDA had been urging the State Government to repair the bypass road, he said the road connecting Tadubi, Kedima and Kohima is around 27 km long, with 18 km falling in Nagaland and the remaining 9 km in Manipur.

He said the Nagaland Government had been undertaking repair works on the stretch falling within its territory, but the portion in Manipur is in poor condition, causing severe hardship to transporters.
