Awareness drive highlights women's rights and justice at Waithou Chiru village

The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW), in collaboration with the Women & Child Wing of the Tribal Youth Council Manipur (TYCM), organised a one-day awareness programmeon"Win-dows to Redressal of Offences Against Women" at Waithou Chiru Village, Kangpokpi district The event aimed to raise awareness on the different forms of violence and crimes against women and girls, and to guide participants on proper channels for seeking justice and support.
The programme was attended by Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, chairperson MSCW; Lourembam Dayabati Devi; T Chuongsin Koireng; Sk Sophia Moyon, members of MSCW; W Phajatombi Devi, member secretary MSCW; Momo Tantanga, president TYCM; and Thoirisong Sebam Raja, chairman of Waithou Chiru Village Authority, among others.
Around 100 men and women from nearby villages participated in the programme.
In her keynote address, Phajatombi Devi spoke about the importance of the Commission's role in empowering women and ensuring justice.
Chairperson Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang emphasised the need to break the silence surrounding genderbased violence, urging women to know their rights and report violations without fear or stigma.
Advocate Kh Lucy elaborated on "Way of Approach and Role of Victims with Local Bodies," stressing the importance of understanding legal procedures, cooperation with authorities, and timely redressal.
She encouraged local bodies to respond sensitively and responsibly to such issues.
An interactive session followed, allowing participants to raise queries and share experiences.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Rengrinei Korraja, women chairperson of Waithou Chiru village.
