Imphal, February 06, 2011:
A police constable, whose marriage date had been fixed, was shot dead at Sawombung gate even as suspected UGs exploded a hand grenade at a house at Chajing Karam Makha Leikai in separate incidents reported today.
The 26-year old constable, Ningombam Sunder Singh son of Kunjo of Sawombung, succumbed to bullet injury at RIMS Hospital around 6 pm after he was shot at the gate of his house at Swambung under Lamlai PS around 5.30 pm.
Reports said that four unidentified persons in a car called out Sunder from his house on the pretext of having a talk.
At the gate, one of the four took out a handgun and shot Sunder.
After committing the crime, they left the place in the same car towards Imphal.
After absorbtion as police constable in the police department, Sunder was posted at Porompat PS.
He had recently completed training from the Manipur Police Training College (MPTC), Pangei.
Family members said that he had come home for his marriage which had been fixed on February 11 with the Heijingpot having been carried on February 9.The motive behind the killing is not known to the family.
Police transferred the dead body to JNIMS morgue in an official procedure.
The bomb explosion took place at the house of Karam Ural Singh (30) son of Gopal of Chajing Karam Makha Leikai under Singjamei PS around 7 pm.
Ural is a government employee working as LDC in Imphal West DC office.
There were no casualties in the blast but caused damage to the Sangoi.
On the other hand, a chowkidar of the Aircel Mobile Service has been kidnapped by suspected KCP(MTF) activists.
Khundrakpam Thoiba (28) was kidnapped from a goldsmith shop run by the family at the village on February 2.His family said that he had kidnapped in connection with monetary demands made to the authority of the Aircel Company.
