RIMS launches special scheme

The Department of Transfusion Medicine, RIMS, Imphal, in collaboration with Helping Hands for People (HHP), Manipur, has launched a special scheme to provide free blood for inpatients of the Radiation Oncology Department, RIMS, throughout the month of October, 2025 .
To support this initiative, HHP Manipur organized a two-day blood donation camp on September 21 and 24, during which 116 units of blood were donated, said a press release issued by the medica cell of RIMS, Imphal.
The blood has been earmarked for cancer patients, who will now receive the required units free of cost and without any replacement requirement from their families.
Started on a trial basis, under this program blood will be arranged entirely from voluntary donations, ensuring patients' families are not burdened with arranging donors.
Speaking in this connection, Dr A Barindra Sharma, Professor, Department of Transfusion Medicine, RIMS, Imphal, stated that this program has been initiated from October 1 to provide free blood to cancer patients for the entire month of October in connection with National Voluntary Blood Donation Day.
Additionally, the Dept of Transfusion Medicine, RIMS, Imphal and Helping Hands for People, Manipur, have appealed to patients to take full advantage of this scheme and expressed plans to extend it to outpatients in the future, and further urged the public to donate blood.
