Peace forms crux at painting competition

A painting competition was held under the theme "Painting for Peace" at Imphal Peace Museum yesterday, Jointly organized by the Imphal Peace Museum and the Manipur Tourism Forum, the event attracted 215 students from various schools across the State.
Participants were divided into two categories: Group A (Class IV to VI) and Group B (Class VII to X) .
Parents, teachers, and peace enthusiasts gathered in large numbers to witness the budding artists put their creativity onto canvas.
The day began with an inaugural session where the organizers highlighted the role of art in bridging cultural gaps and promoting unity among young people.
The theme "Painting for Peace" encouraged them to illustrate what peace meant to the students�some depicted tranquil landscapes with doves and olive branches, while others showcased scenes of unity, friendship, and hope.
A highlight of the event was a discussion on the Importance of Peace, especially in the context of Manipur's rich yet tumultuous history.
Haobam Joyremba, Director of Imphal Peace Museum spoke about the devastating impacts of World War II, drawing connections to the present need for harmony and mutual respect in Manipur.
The Imphal Peace Museum also screened short films and archival footage from the Second World War, providing a stark reminder of the ravages of armed conflict and the vital role of reconciliation.
In the afternoon, the main focus shifted to the prize distribution ceremony, graced by Dr Thangjam Dhabali, Chairman of Babina Groups; Haobam Joyremba, Director of Imphal Peace Museum; and P Kunjabihari, president of Manipur Tourism Forum.
In Group A, the first prize went to Anarika Thiyam Devi of St John's English High School while Thockchom Korounganba of Innovative Academy won the second place.
Third prize went to Leimapokpam Allina Devi, and Oinam Chaoba Devi of St John's English High School.
In Group B, the first prize went to Thokchom Mecci of Modern Higher Secondary School while Haorongbam Alok Meitei of Modern Higher Secondary School bagged the second place.
Pheiroijam Sharsina Devi of St.
John's English High School and Linthoi Ningthoujam of Modern Higher Secondary School won third place.
Each winner received a certificate, and a cash prize.
Their winning artworks will be displayed in the Imphal Peace Museum's gallery for a month.
