Injured in police action, Reson still in hospital

Reson Haobijam, (17) s/o H Mani of Khurai Konsam Leikai Bamon Leirak who was severely injured in police action against student protesters on July 10 is still undergoing treatment at the Regional Institute of Medical Science, (RIMS) Imphal.
Reson was among the protest marchers on July 10 along the Khuman Lampak Stadium road demanding the implementation of Inner Line Permit system in Manipur.
Several rounds of tear-gas shells and mock bombs were fired upon the protesters to disperse them.
Reson was injured in the mayhem.
A tear-gas shell hit him at his left shoulder inflicting serious damage in the area and on the left ear.
A mock bomb splinter was found in one of his four wounds.
One of his veins was cut and two units of blood were given.
His right arm, lower abdomen and back was also severely injured and he was rushed to the RIMS hospital.
After he was admitted to the hospital in critical condition, it was learnt that his left ear drum was also damaged.
When The Sangai Express visited him at RIMS today, Reson"s mother, Sanatombi recalled the incident as something which she would never forget in her life.
Reminiscing the day when his son needed some units of blood, she said the blood bank of RIMS failed to provide them blood as she did not have enough money.
But later the Red Cross Society offered to give them all the required blood units for his son, she said while also expressing her gratitude.
Even though Reson is stable for now, she expressed that the right arm of her son is severely battered and earlier the doctors even considered of amputating the arm.
Now his left ear is damaged and he might not be able to hear.
She said that the protest must continue until the demands are achieved.
She stated that her family is not satisfied with the ways the State Government reacts to the people's demand.
Reson is being attended by Dr Kala and he has been providing all forms of cares, Sanatombi added.
Locals of Khurai Konsam Leikai Bamon Leirak extended financial help of Rs 10,000 and the local MLA Ng Bijoy provided Rs 2,000 .
Reson is a class X student of Mangi Higher Secondary School, Khurai Chairenthong.
