Imphal, July 20 2016: Founded way back in 2000, Don Bosco College, Maram located 85 km from the State capital in Senapati district, recently made headlines for securing 3.35 point in the CGPA score which was the highest in Manipur till date and second in the entire North East.

The grading process was conducted by the National Assessment Accreditation Council of India (NAAC) in 2015.Adding another achievement to its list, the college was declared as "College with potential for Excellence (CPE)" along with two colleges from Assam and Mizoram by the University Grant Commission (UGC) in April this year.

The College secured 50th rank in seven departments for BA and BCom examinations conducted by the Manipur University 2015-16, exclaimed the overwhelmed principal Father Dr Sebastian Karottupuram SDB in an interaction with The Sangai Express at the college.

This year's toppers in BA Sociology (from top 1 to 10) under Manipur University are students of Donbosco College, Maram.

Besides, 11th rank holder in BA English, 8th rank in Economics, 8th rank in B Com, 5th rank in Political Science, 4th rank in History and 4th rank in Education are students of Donbosco College, Maram.

The college gives emphasis to bring out the best and provide the best academic atmosphere to students, said the Principal.

Students from different parts of the entire North East including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya and different districts of Manipur study in the college.

Not a single case of internal conflict among students has happened, claimed Father Sebastian.

He continued that the feeling of 'oneness' among the students increases unity and belongingness to the college.

The college is home to 3200 students studying in different streams like English, Economics, Political Science, History, Education and Sociology; Accountancy and Management; Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany; Social Work; Computer Application and Biotechnology.

The principal continued that vocational training courses like Beauty and Spa, Food and Beverage, Carpentry, Compulsory computer course, Soft skill training, Finishing course (skills of talking, interview, personality) and Music are offered to students for overall development.

Unlike other colleges in the State, not a single academic day is lost due to bandh or strike and it provides ample of time for teachers to complete their syllabus and give extra attention to weak students, added Father Sebastian.

Strict attendance is maintained and 80 percent is the minimum requirement to appear in their final exams.
