Imphal, September 08 2026:
Condemning the recurring incidents of violence targeting people from North East India, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has questioned whether the BJP-led Government at the Centre is looking down on the people of the region.
Addressing the media at Congress Bhavan today, MPCC vice president Hareshwar Goswami said the Congress party strongly condemns the killing of renowned guitarist Chongtham Vikram at Kilokari in New Delhi.
On behalf of the party, he conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and shared their grief.
Saying that Vikram was allegedly beaten to death by a group of people in the National Capital after he complained about loud noise, he said the incident reflected the attitude of some people in mainland India towards those from Manipur and the North East.
He said AICC leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have also condemned the incident and questioned the BJP-led Government over the law-and-order situation in the National Capital.
Demanding justice for the victim, Hareshwar reiterated that the recurring incidents of violence against people from North East in mainland India are a matter of serious concern.
