Imphal, August 08 2025:
Dialysis patients have urged the Government and the Association of Healthcare Providers of India (AHPI) Manipur Chapter to bring about an understanding and avoid suspension of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY).
This came after the AHPI announced that it will suspend PMJAY scheme from August 16 citing Government's failure to reimburse pending dues.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club Imphal today, patients who are undergoing dialysis at private hospitals said the proposed suspension of the PMJAY scheme would adversely affect them most.
Representing the dialysis patients, one Bonny Naoroibam said a large number of patients depend on the PMJAY scheme for dialysis.
If the PMJAY scheme is suspended as announced, many patients will have no money to undergo dialysis, Bonny said.
A patient usually requires dialysis 3-4 times a week, and it costs around Rs 4000 to Rs 5000 per dialysis.
The PMJAY scheme is the only means available for many patients who need dialysis to survive, Bonny said.
PMJAY card holders are persons belonging to below poverty line and they need the scheme to treat their ailments.
Most importantly, the dialysis patients depend on it.
Suspending the scheme would mean strangulating them to death, Bonny asserted, appealing to the AHPI and the Government to reach an understanding and allow dialysis patients to get treatment under the scheme.
