Imphal, June 14 2015 :
The State today joined in the observation of World Donor Day by expressing gratitude to blood donors who save lives by donating blood.
The observation was held at GM Hall, Imphal organised by the Manipur State AIDS Control Society and Life Savers, Manipur.
Department of IHBT, RIMS Professor Dr A Meina Singh, Manipur State AIDS Control Society Project Director Regina Hongray and JNIMS Medical Superintendent Dr W Gopimohan Singh graced the observation as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
By 2020, the State would be able to meet the required amount of blood, Dr A Meina stated.
RIMS, SHIJA, JNIMS, Churachandpur and Thoubal district hospital at present has blood banks that supply blood to other private hospitals in times of need.
"Donating blood is easy.
What is difficult is convincing one to donate," Dr Meina stated.
The present blood requirements at hospitals, Dr Meina opined, could be easily met if every youth in the State volunteer to donate blood at least once in a year.
World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) is observed each year globally on June 14 to recognize and thank the millions of people around the world who donate their blood to help and save lives and improve health.
