Jiribam, December 17 2023: A joint convention of Meiteis, Meitei Pangals and Manipuri Bishnupriyas christened 'Manipuri Unity Convention' was held today at Khoiren, Cachar in Assam.

The convention jointly organised by All Assam Manipuri Youths Association (AAMYA) and Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Mahasabha was graced by Chief Minister N Biren as chief guest.

The morning session of the convention featured a group discussion on the topics 'Manipur conflict resolution' and 'Manipuri unification movement (Meitei, Meitei Pangal and Manipuri Bishnupriya)' .

The group discussion was moderated by COCOMI spokesman Khuraijam Athouba where AAMYA chief advisor Ksh Kundal Singha and Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Mahasabha (NBMM) general secretary Jishnu Singha spoke on the specified topics.

Chief Minister N Biren, Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam, CAF&PD Minister L Susindro, MLAs Thongam Santi, K Ibomcha, Mayanglambam Rameshwar, Women Action Committee for Villages Protection, Lakhipur president Sunita Konthoujam and NBMM general secretary Jishnu Singha graced the afternoon session as presidium members.

Speaking at the gathering, Chief Minister N Biren stated that all efforts made so far toward unification of Meiteis, Meitei Pangals and Bishnupriya Manipuris have not been successful enough.

But today the three communities of Meiteis, Meitei Pangals and Bishnupriya Manipuris have presented a very clear picture of oneness at the convention organised by AAMYA and NBMM at Cachar, Assam.

As such, December 17, 2023 would go down in the collective history of the three communities as one of the most significant days, Biren said.

He then appealed to all CSOs based in Assam to work collectively for the common good instead of working separately.

In order to address the difficulties faced by Manipuris who come to Assam from Manipur and other places regarding accommodation, a guest house would be constructed in Assam soon, Biren announced.

He further announced that a joint committee comprising Meiteis, Meitei Pangals and Bishnupriya Manipuris would be constituted soon so as to uphold and promote the bond of unity among the three communities.

Govindas Konthoujam too highlighted the growing need for unity among the different Manipuri communities.

All the communities who are related by blood must come together to form a single, united and strong community.

Later, representatives of several organisations submitted a number of memoranda to Chief Minister N Biren.
