Imphal, March 12 2023: Police seized over 6 kgs of brown sugar, 4 kgs of WY tablets, 906 gram of heroin, 936 gram of opium from different places during the Yaoshang Festival.

During the festival, about 48 acres of poppy plantation were also destroyed by the police.

6 kgs of brown sugar would fetch around Rs 9 crore in the international market while 906 gram of heroin would be valued at around Rs 1.8 crore in the same market as per our earlier estimation.

The value of WY tablets, however, couldn't be ascertained as the price of it is based on the number of pieces.

Opium, on the other hand, is fixed at Rs 7 lakh per kilogram in the international market.

Over 6 Kgs of brown sugar seized

Tengnoupal police arrested one Thangminlal Baite (23), s/o Janglun Baite of Moreh Ward no 1 along with 150 soap cases of brown sugar containing over 6 kgs of brown sugar, four bundles of WY tablets weighing over 4 kgs from Eshingkhong near Chahmol Village along National Highway 102 on March 7 .

He reportedly brought the drugs in an unregistered white Tata Xenon.

Thangminlal Baite has been handed over to Tengnoupal police station along with the seized drugs.

In another incident, Thoubal commandos along with district women police arrested another drug peddler identified as Khulakpam Abdul @ Raghu (32), s/o Late Md Suyeb Ali of Yairipok Changamdabi Mayai Leikai on March 9 .

From his possession, the combined team seized 906 gram of suspected heroin, another 936 gram of suspected opium, 279 grams of suspected Ammonium Chloride and 5 gram of suspected brown sugar.

On his (Abdul) disclosure, another person identified as Khuleibam Muhamuddin @ Ibocha was also arrested and from him one double barrel gun, one empty case and ammunition marked as "12 Shaktiman 12 Express' seized.

It is reported that the seized drugs were manufactured at the house of Muhamuddin at Yairipok Changamdabi Mayai Leikai.

During the house search, residue of brown sugar weighing around 1.49 kgs and other items used in manufacturing drugs were seized.

Both Muhamuddin and Abdul have been handed over to Andro police station.

Meanwhile, 48.8 acres of poppy plantation was destroyed at different villages of Kangpokpi.

While seven acres of poppy plantation were destroyed at Chongjang and Songbem villages under Saikul police station on March 7, 20 acres of such plantation were destroyed at M Ngamneh (Tolthang hill range) and Natjang hill range under Saikul police station on March 8 .

Another 21.8 acres of poppy plantation were destroyed at Tingpibung hill range under Saikul police station on March 9 .
