Imphal, September 08 2026: Vice President Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan visited Manipur for a few hours today as part of his four-day North East States tour and a warm welcome was accorded by Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Chief Minister Y Khemchand, Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, Chief Secretary Rajeev Singh Thakur, DGP Mukesh Singh and other officials of the State Government.

The Vice President was also given a Guard of Honour immediately upon his arrival at the airport.

Immediately after his arrival, the Vice-President visited the INA Martyrs' Memorial Complex, Moirang, Bishnupur district.

There, he was warmly received by the Governor along with Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam; Art and Culture Minister Khuraijam Loken Singh; MLA of Moirang Assembly Constituency Thongam Shanti; and senior officers of the State Government.

A traditional lengyaan and bouquet were presented to him by the Governor.

Later, the Vice-President visited the historic Moirang Kangla within the complex and thereafter proceeded to the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, where he laid a wreath and paid homage to the great leader.

He subsequently visited the INA Museum, where he was presented with gifts and souvenirs.

Thereafter, CP Radhakrisnan attended a function at the Vikram Batra Auditorium at Sainik School, Pangei in Imphal East District.

Addressing the gathering, CP Radhakrisnan said that his decision to visit Sainik School, Imphal was taken after a high-level review meeting of Sainik Schools conducted by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence in August 2026 .

Applauding the contributions and achievements of Sainik School, Imphal, he said the institution, which began in a barrack at Tulihal Airport, should take this opportunity to reflect on its journey spanning around 55 years.

The true legacy of the institute is not only confined in the structural buildings of the school campus but on the discipline and dedication of the cadets, the Vice President said and emphasised that the cadets should be enabled to shine with values in whatever career they choose.

He further said that the quality of discipline, leadership and courage should be instilled in the mind of the cadets while acknowledging the valuable contribution of the institute in the Indian armed forces.

The Vice President also said that cadets should be able to sacrifice themselves in the larger interest of the country irrespective of caste, creed and religion.

The Vice President urged the students of the institute to contribute in protecting the integrity of the Nation and wish the institute a glorious path in future.

The Governor said the State would look forward to more visits by the Vice President.

He said the first visit of the Vice President to the State would provide an opportunity for the young cadets to witness National leadership and draw inspiration from his distinguished public life and service to the Nation.

Bhalla also applauded the legacy of the institute and its immense contribution not only to the armed forces but also to the Nation.

The alumni in their professional lives have brought distinction to the institution, the State and the country, he said.

Saying that Manipur has a long tradition of service in the armed forces, the Governor added that the courage, resilience and sense of duty associated with the people of the State are known across the regions.

The institute has an important role in nurturing the next generation of young Indians, he added.

Stating that the vision of Viksit Bharat requires not only young people equipped with knowledge and skills but also integrity, compassion, discipline and a deep sense of responsibility towards the Nation, the Governor urged the cadets to make the most of the opportunity to study at an institution that instils such values.

He wished the institute success in its future endeavours.

Chief Minister Y Khemchand said that the visit of the Vice President is a matter of pride for the school as well as the State.

Commending the discipline maintained by the cadets and the school's various achievements, he said the institution has been providing a valuable platform to nurture and empower the youth.

He added that the Ministry of DoNER had approved to carry out a development work at Sainik School, Imphal.

A cultural programme was showcased by the cadets of the institute followed by an interaction session as part of the programme.

The program was also attended by Deepti Mohil Chawla, IDAS, Additional Secretary, DOD, Ministry of Defence; Brigadier JBS Rathi, Officiating GOC, 57 Mountain Division & Chairman LBA, Sainik School Imphal; Brigadier Amit Chatterjee, Inspecting Officer SSS, Ministry of Defence and Colonel A Rajiv, Principal, Sainik School, Imphal.

After the programme, the Vice President returned to the airport and departed Imphal.

He was seen off at the airport by the Governor, the Chief Minister, Rajya Sabha MP A Sharda Devi, Chief Secretary Rajeev Singh Thakur and other top civil and police officials.
