Pass pc sees marginal improvement at 66.7, boys do better

Imphal, June 03 2017: The pass percentage in the Class X examination conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur saw a marginal improvement from last year, returning a pass percentage of 66.7 to last year's 65.4 pass percentage.

This year the HSLC examination was announced later than last year due to the Assembly election.

Last year the result was announced on May 24 .

The pass percentage this year however fades in comparison with the CBSE Class X pass percentage which returned a figure of 90.95 pass percentage (The Gauhati region of the CBSE Class X exam result is yet to be declared at the time of filing this report) and ICSE exam which saw 98.53 pass percentage.

Among regular candidates, boys did better than girsl returhning a pass percentage of 72.66 to 67.51 of the girls.

Even the 10th result of Nagaland Board of School Education saw a better result with the pass percentage standing at 70.19 .

As in the past, private schools hogged the limelight with 74 pc of the students from such schools cracking the HSLC exams while students from Government schools recorded a pass percentage of 45.7.Students from aided schools returned figure of 51.15 pass percentage.

In the top 25 rank, Nirmalabas School, Imphal, Tiny Tots' Unique School, Imphal and St Joseph's School, Sangaiprou shared the honours with Priyanka Moirangthem of Nirmalabas School topping this year's HSLC exam with a score of 567 marks in six subjects.

Thounaojam Joylity Devi of Eureka Academy, Thounaojam came second with a score of 562 marks while Laishram Librada Singh of Sacred Heart School, Yairipok did his school proud by bagging the third position with 561 marks.

Shaha Minhaz of Tiny Tots' Unique School shared the third spot also scoring a total of 561 marks.

Tiny Tots' Unique School took the lion's share of the first 25 positions with 13 of its students finding a place in the 25 list.

Nirmalabas followed with 8 of its students, including the first topper, in the first 25 list followed by St Joseph's School, Sangaiprou with 7 of its students in the first 25 list.

Old favourites Little Flower School had only two students in the first 25 list.

Interestingly, there were at least 14 students from schools located outside Imphal who came in the first 25 list.

Thoubal and Kakching topped amongst the districts with 79.82 pc of the students getting through the Class X exam while Imphal East and Jiribam came at the bottom with 59.38 pass percentage.

A total of 23 candidates were expelled during the examination for using unfair means and they have been barred from the HSLC exam next year.

For impersonation 11 candidates were expelled and they have been barred from the exam till 2020.Even though it was earlier announced that the HSLC exam this year would be announced by 4 pm, it was actually announced after 4.30 pm with the Education Minister, Parliamentary Secretary, Education Commissioner, officials of BOSEM at its office.

Announcing the result, Education Minister Th Radheshyam took note of the fact that it is a girl who has topped the HSLC exam and added that it may be right to study why girls seem to be doing better than the boys and praised the work culture of girl students.

Stating that though the pass percentage may not be that high, it is nonetheless true that the students are improving, said the Education Minister and added that all should co-operate with each other to make the education pursuit of the young students better.

Seeking to give a word of encouragement to all the students who may be disappointed with their results, Radheshyam urged them not to be disheartened but to work with renewed vigour and asked the teachers, schools, Education Department and all concerned to extend their co-operation so that all can put in their best effort.
