Imphal, September 30 2025:
The 129th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot was observed across the State today.
While the CPI, Manipur State Council (CPI-MSC) and Manipur State Shumang Leela Council (MSSLC) marked the occasion at Iboyaima Shumang Leela at Palace Compound, the CPI (M), Manipur observed the day at MDU Hall, Yaiskul Police Lane.
The CPI-MSC anniversary celebration began with a procession from Irawat Bhavan to Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, with the particpants carrying a life-size photo of the Lamyanba.
Later, floral tributes were paid to the photo of Irabot at the venue.
As part of the programme, various awards were distributed, and prizes were given to the winners of the march-past competition organised by CPI-MSC.

Among others, the programme was attended by different Left leaders including former Chairman of CPI-MSC State Control Commission Langol Iboyaima, former Minister Dr M Nara, CPI-MSC former State secretary L Thoiren, State secretary A Nabachandra, MSSLC president L Romba and founder of All Manipur Nupi Marup M Kadambini.
CPI (M), Manipur, on the other hand, observed the day in the presence of INDIA Bloc leaders including Lok Sabha MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, MPCC president K Meghachandra (Wangkhem MLA) and CPI (M) Manipur secretary Ksh Shanta.
The observance included floral tributes to Lamyanba, a silence in honour of those who sacrificed their lives defending Manipur, and the distribution of prizes for a symposium competition held under the theme "Thangol Ado Maya Thangu Thouna".
Addressing the function, Bimol Akoijam described Hijam Irabot as a far-sighted leader who dedicated his life to fostering unity among the people and driving modem transformation in Manipur.
Noting that Irabot convened a meeting with Meitei, Naga, and Kuki people on November 30, 1947 during a critical phase in Manipur's history, the MP added that the crisis in Manipur would have been resolved long ago had leaders like Irabot guided the State.
Today's leaders need to follow Irabot's ideals, he said, emphasizing that merely observing his birth or death anniversaries wouldn't be meaningful.
Bimol also said that Manipur needs visionary leaders like Irabot who can build a new and progressive Manipur.
Manipur Dramatic Union president S Keshoram, Eye Foundation Manipur president Dr Y Ibopishak, MGSF president L Sarat, Manipur Loumi Marup president N Thoiba, AMDWA president Ch Sundari, CPI Manipur leader Longjam Iboyaima, JHIBCC chairman Sarat Salam and representatives of State units of AAP, NCP (SP), Shiv Sena (UBT), AITC, AIFB, RSP, BSP also attended the programme.
