Violent crisis: Dangers of influence on children highlighted

Social Welfare Director Ngangom Uttam has highlighted the dangers facing society if the current turmoil influences children to turn to guns instead of wishing for a return to normalcy.
He made the remark during the 16th foundation day of Patriotic Writers' Forum (PAWF), Manipur held at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul today.
During the ceremony, floral tributes were offered on the portraits of former PAWF members and eminent personalities of Mani- puri literature.
Many renowned personalities in the field of litera- ture were also felicitated on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Ngangom Uttam urged the public to make concerted efforts to prevent impressionable young kids from being misled by the violent conflict.
In addition, he spoke about the recent rescue of five children from Nashik and cautioned the public to remain wary of deceitful individuals who offer free education to children.
He urged them to inform the Social Welfare Department if they come across such people and investigate the veracity of their offers.
The 16th foundation day of PAWF was also attended by N Khamba Luwang, president, PAWF; Kshetri Tama, former Upa-Adhyaksha, Imphal East ZP and S Shilasana, ZP, Hiyangthang ZP as the functional president and guests of honour.
Notably, a large number of the children have been rendered homeless by the protracted violent crisis and they have been living in relief camps for the past nine months or so.
Morever, many children have lost either one of their parents or both.
