SHRI, AGMC perform second kidney transplant

Imphal, November 12 2024: Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI) and AGMC & GB Pant Hospital, Agartala successfully performed joint second kidney transplant on Tuesday at the latter hospital.

In a release, general manager Santosh Shekhar said Shija's management is honoured to have contributed to the achievement.

A team "of 10 specialists from Shija Hospitals collaborated closely with the dedicated medical team at the GB Pant Hospital to complete the surgery, marking an important milestone for kidney transplant programmes in the region, he informed.

It also quoted SHRI consultant urologist Dr Somorendro Paonam as emphasising Shija Hospitals' commitment to empowering AGMC's nephrologists and urologists to independently perform kidney transplants in the near future.

This includes developing cadaveric transplant protocols to address Tripura's growing need for organ donors, he conveyed.

Shija Hospitals is fully prepared to provide expertise, technology, and manpower, along with awareness and training initiatives in collaboration with the MOHAN Foundation, to promote organ donation, the release added.
