Imphal, August 08 2023:
Despite growing popularity of Ayush treatment among the masses, lack of infrastructure and manpower in many Government Ayush treatment centres has presented a lot of inconveniences to the patients.
The "10 Bedded Ayush Wing (Yoga & Nature Cure)" at Mongsangei, Imphal West is one amongst many such Government Ayush Treatment Centres.
Here, more than thirty patients suffering from BP stroke, paralysis, arthritis etc are receiving daily treatment.
The ten-bedded hospital which was set up in 2016 has facilities for physiotherapy, acupuncture, massage therapy and hydrotherapy, among others.

Unfortunately, this AYUSH Hospital which is treating many patients including ones with chronic illnesses is plagued with infrastructural issues.
The approach road leading to the hospital from Mongsangei Main Road is in a state of utter disrepair.
The roughly 100 metre road is very narrow and poses hindrance to the entry of four-wheelers.
Due to the poor condition of the road, patients have been faced with a lot of difficulties.
A patient with back and joint problems receiving treatment at the centre has shared that when she first came to the centre, she could not move her body and had to be carried in by her family members and hospital staff as their car could not drive through the dilapidated and narrow approach road.
Aside from this, the total number of hospital staff at the AYUSH Centre is merely five, including one doctor.
Inadequate equipment has also translated to long waiting hours for patients.
According to one patient Heikrujam Shanti, even though the hospital opens its doors at 9 am in the morning, due lack of manpower and equipment one has to wait almost the entire day to wait for their turn to receive treatment.
Sharing that treatment of each patient takes anywhere between an hour and an hour and a half, she maintained that increasing the manpower and addressing the shortage of equipment will speed up the process of treatment for patients.
AYUSH treatment is not only effective but it is gaining a lot of popularity in Manipur.
The Health Minister should promote this method of treatment and improve the condition of the Government AYUSH centres, she added.
