Imphal, August 08 2023:
While pointing out that the role of Assam Rifles in the ongoing ethnic unrest in Manipur is to maintain peace and tranquillity in the state but the central paramilitary force has been under considerable amount of criticism and public outrage, BJP Manipur Pradesh submitted a memorandum on Monday to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding to replace Assam Rifles by any other paramilitary forces permanently from the state in the interest of general public.
In the memorandum, BJP Manipur Pradesh alleged that Assam Rifles since May 3 has failed to maintain neutrality so as to restore peace in the state.
The public anger and protest against the Assam Rifles for playing the role of partisanship in this highly delicate and sensitive ethnic unrest continues to be witnessed unabated even today.
The Assam Rifles has been charged by the public for their bias role in tackling the situation by favoring and supporting one side only, it added.
Citing Kwakta incident of August 4 as one example where three civilians were killed brutally by Kuki terrorists while they were sleeping in their homes, the memorandum stated that in pursuit of the killers, the state force acted swiftly and was about to caught them when they were stopped by the Assam Rifles on the road by placing the army vehicle directly in middle of the road which was leading to the village where the Kuki militants stationed.
Assam Rifles had acted similarly on many cases, the memorandum contended, while demanding to replace AR by other personnel in the state.
BJP Manipur Pradesh also sought PM's intervention in bringing an amicable solution to the ongoing ethnic unrest at the earliest.
