Imphal, December 09 2023:
Governor Anusuiya Uikey has assured of extending all possible support to those who have been affected and rendered homeless due to the present crisis in the state.
The Governor gave the assurance while speaking as chief guest of the inaugural function of the two-day 39th All Manipur Medical Conference (AMAMECON) 2023 organised by Indian Medical Association (IMA), Manipur State Branch at its conference hall in Lamphelpat, here, on Sunday.
Speaking at the event held under the theme "Psychosocial Stability: Need of the Hour", Governor Anusuiya lamented that around 60,000 people have been rendered homeless due the ethnic conflict and are staying in various relief camps.
Considering the problems faced by the internally displaced persons, doctors are commendably conducting medical camps at the relief camps.
She further stated that residents of relief camps are in need of help of eyeryone and it should be duty of all to mitigate their suffering.
The Governor also expressed hope and prayed that the present crisis subsides and peace prevails soon.
Commenting on the theme of AMAMECON, Anusuiya said that it is very apt in the present situation in the state and urged the medical fraternity to shoulder the responsibility of giving new hope to victims of the crisis.
She also lauded humanitarian service of the doctors and medical workers in the state.
Doctors are providing health services especially to those who cannot afford treatment in comparatively expensive private hospitals, she acknowledged, while adding that the government alone cannot do the entire work in healthcare sector.
Keeping in view of the increasing demand for medical service, volunteers and organisations should be motivated to establish hospitals and other healthcare facilities, the Governor emphasised.
She also pointed out the need to provide healthcare service in the far flung rural areas and to develop the medical infrastructure.
Appreciating the efforts of IMA, Anusuiya Uikey said that the association is carrying out activities to raise health awareness.
The Association is an important forum for doctors in the public and private sectors to exchange ideas, expertise and protect their rights and promote their well-being which contributes to the implementation of national health programmes such as vaccination, NCDs, etc.
She also appealed to the association to organise free health camps as frequent as possible in the remote areas of the state where availability of medical facilities, is limited.
Stressing the need to motivate children, the Governor said that parents should never pressurise their children as it may lead to serious health issues like mental problem.
IMA Manipur State Branch president Dr RK Lenin, who was also present on the occasion, expressed his gratitude to all those who extended support in organising the event successfully.
Dhanamanjuri University vice chancellor Professor N Rajmuhon was present as guest of honour of the function.
