Imphal, November 14 2023:
While welcoming the government's decision to construct permanent houses for displaced people taking shelter in relief camps, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Okram Ibobi Singh has questioned the government as to where the permanent houses are to be constructed.
Further enquiring if permament houses for displaced people are to be constructed at their native places, the CLP leader said that the same question is being raised from different sections of the society thereby underscoring that the displaced people want to reside at their native places by constructing new houses.
O Ibobi raised the posers on the occasion of 134th birth anniversary of India's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru organised by Manipur Pradesh Congress Commitee (MPCC) at Congress Bhawan, BT Road, here, on Tuesday.
According to Ibobi, there is no place for violence in democratic country.
An unwanted incident had happened in Manipur but it is very unfortunate that the violence could not be resolved even after six-months while the Government of India remains as mute spectator to the violence.
While stressing that both the warring communities should condone mistakes committed by either side, he called for endeavouring to resolve the crisis.
Ibobi stated that in a democratic country like India, initiation of talks followed by meaningful dialogue for finding any political solution would be the main focus when the violence besieged all around.
In reply to a question posed by a newsman, Ibobi said that it would be the right path of the ruling governments to construct the houses destroyed in the violence and safely return the displaced persons to their homestead for initiative a new lease of life for those affected by the violence.
Notably, the Manipur government is at present preparing to construct permanent houses for the displaced persons some of whom are now taking shelter at the fabricated houses and different relief camps across the state.
Reiterating that resolution to the crisis cannot be possible without holding talks, the former chief minister said that the Congress party does not believe in violence and has firm belief in non-violence since the times of Mahatma Gandhi and Pandit Nehru.
He said that the Government of India must bring out a solution and restore peace and normalcy in Manipur.
He also expressed concern over the fate of future generation of Manipur if the violence continues.
While remembering the contributions made by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in the nation building process, the CLP leader said that people of India could repay Pandit Nehru's contributions only when dreams of the great leader are realised.
He said that Pandit Nehru had worked tirelessly for peace and harmony among different communities inhabiting in the vast country.
MPCC president K Meghachandra, who also attended the event, said that minds of children directly affected by the violence in Manipur are still disturbed though the country is celebrating Children's Day.
Both the state and Central governments are celerbating the day and calling for providing education and nutritious food to children but children of the state are yet to get proper education and food for the past six months, he said and prayed for return of normalcy in the state.
The event was also attended by AICC's CWC member Gaikhangam and other party leaders and workers.
