Imphal, November 02 2012:
Greek Philosophers Plato and Aristotle might have different opinions in defining the concept of 'art', but the present day generation still counts on their valuable presentation as the most precious gift of understanding the field.
The mind-blowing debate over the definition of Art has been well stressed by Professor Salam Shayamkishore Singh while delivering speech on the 5th Elangbam Nilakanta Memorial Lecture on the topic 'Reflection on Beauty, Creativity and Aesthetic Communication' organised by Manipur Sahitya Parishad held today at Lampyanba Shanglen Palace compound.
Prof..SShyamkishore Singh, (Retd.Prof.of Philosophy and Dean, School of Humanities, MU) said, "Art is the imitation of reality but generate comment on something reality.
If the reflection and contemplation are not futile then the creativity is meaningless" .
Comparing how Greek Philosophers Plato and Aristotle had defined the meaning of Art, the Professor said Plato may not have given a compact form to the definition by saying that art is an imitation of reality but Aristotle had touched a clear glance of the exact understanding by saying that art is not only imitation of reality but also which reflect comment on something reality.
