Ukhrul, January 23 2026:
The Naga Students' Organization (NSO), Myanmar, has hailed the decision of the United Tangshang Naga Council (UTNC) to abstain from participating in the recently concluded Pangsau Pass International Festival (PPIF), held from January 20-22, 2026, at Nampong town in Arunachal Pradesh, India.
In a press statement issued on Friday, the NSO (Myanmar) expressed deep concern over the ongoing construction of border fencing across Naga ancestral lands, particularly in the Pangsaung Pass-Nanyung Township and adjoining areas.
It stated that the fencing poses serious threats to the unity, cultural continuity, and inherent rights of the Naga people.
Appreciating the UTNC's collective decision to stay away from the festival, the NSO said the move sent a clear message to the International community that the Naga people do not accept the imposition of border fencing across their ancestral lands.
The organisation stated that the decision was a timely and dignified form of protest against what it termed as an act of hostility.
Describing the Nagas as peace-loving and conscious of their rights, the NSO said the abstention reflected a dignified assertion of indigenous rights and collective conscience.
