Phougakchao PS registers FIR against 9 AR

Imphal, August 08 2023: Phougakchao Police Station has registered an FIR against 9 Assam Rifles for obstructing Bishnupur District Police and commandos from carrying their duties and allowing Kuki militants 'to escape.

According to a report, on August 5, Phougakchao PS received a reliable input of presence of some Kuki militants in an area between Pholjang and Kwakta under Kwakta Ward no.8 .

Based on the input, a team of Bishnupur District Police was dispatched to the location at around 6.30 am to conduct a search operation.

However, when the state police and commando team arrived near Qutub Wali Masjid of Kwakta Ward No 8 along the road leading to Pholjang, 9 AR personnel blocked the road with their Casspir vehicles.

The 9 AR personnel not only obstructed the district police and commando personnel from carrying out their duty as per the law but also allowed the Kuki militants, who are mentioned as accused in another FIR, to escape safely from the area.

The report of the incident was received at the PS at 6:40 pm.

In connection with the incident, Phougakchao PS registered a suo moto case and launched an investigation.

Mention may be made here that three people including a father-son duo were hacked and shot to dead by Kuki militants in the wee hours of August 5.Phougakchao PS had registered an FIR in this regard.

When the police reached the areas of Kwakta Ward no 8 adjacent to Pholjang to search for the Kuki militants involved, they were met with heavy gunfire.

In the gunfight many civilians were injured.
