Imphal, December 31 2023:
The long march of Manipur Youth League (MAYOL) for national regeneration reached Lamlong higher secondary school on the 12th day on Sunday after the march resumed from Sagolmang higher secondary school in the morning.
Associate professor Arambam Nony of Dhanamanjuri University, who was main speaker at the second public meeting of the day at Lamlong higher secondary school, said time has reached for taking a collective and decisive decision on how to save the motherland and defend the territorial integrity.
The prevailing unrest situation in Manipur is an opportunity for everyone to introspect deeply and step forward together.
On how to save Manipur and safeguard its territorial integrity, collective decision of all the CSOs, Meira Paibis, clubs and students is paramount and move together in unison, Nony said and expressed concern over decline in the spirit of nationalism among emerging youth.
According to Nony, the contemporary Manipuri society witnessed the changing mindset of emerging youth and the impact of the ever advancing social media has greatly affected even the young children.
Another trend spreading fast in the contemporary Manipuri society has been modification of body parts particularly by young girls through surgery and emergence of groups doing big business in this trade.
Due to these factors, emerging youth particularly girls and children have distanced themselves from sense of nationalism and lacks love for motherland, Nony said and cautioned that the changing mind-set of young generation is not good for the future of the society.
While stressing the need for having deep discussion on the mode of teaching at private schools in the state where students are forced to learn only the lessons from textbooks, Arambam Nony appealed MAYOL to look into mode of teaching at private schools.
Before the long march reached its destination for the 12th day at Lamlong higher secondary school, large number of people welcomed the marchers along Imphal-Sagolmang Pangei road and Imphal-Ukhrul road with blessings.
Earlier, the marchers were seen off till Pangei by Sagolmang Development Committee, Meira Paibis of Sagolmang, clubs, Arambai Tenggol Sagolmang unit and village volunteers of Yumnam Khunou, Yumnam Patlou and Pangei.
First public meeting of the day was held at Pangei Yangdong community hall.
