Imphal, August 08 2023:
Torbung, a place that has become a hotbed for violence amid the present conflict between two communities is a historically important place intrinsically linked to the Moirang Kangleirol story of Khamba and Thoibi, said MLA Nishikant Singh Sapam on a TV discussion on News9 .
Talking about the Kuki groups' stalled plan to hold a mass burial at Torbung, MLA Nishikant said the land where they (Kukis) want to bury the dead bodies is owned by the Govt and there is a sericulture farm located there.
He said Torbung in Manipur is a place of historical importance of the Moirang King and the place is also attached with the Moirang Kangleirol story of Khamba and Thoibi.
He stressed that the land patta claimed to have been sold was never cleared and settled.
Besides, the High Court has directed all concerned to maintain status quo in the region, he added.
MLA Nishikant was speaking about the August 3 High Court order which stalled the Kuki groups plan to hold a mass burial of Kukis killed in the conflict at the place at Torbung that day.
Talking about the violence that has taken place, the MLA said 3-4 days ago, a family [three people belonging to Meitei] were killed in the middle of the night by Kuki miscreants at Kwakta neighbouring Torbung.
The gruesome incident happened on May 5.Three Meiteis including a father and son were killed while they were asleep in their homes at Kwakta.
The miscreants shot them dead and mutilated their bodies, according to the police.
Mentioning a submission made by the Solicitor General of India in the Supreme Court recently, MLA Nishikant stressed that 'foreign fighters from across the border are involved in the present conflict' .
Indicating the presence and involvement of armed illegal immigrants in the conflict in Manipur, the Solicitor General of India had told the Apex Court that "most of the unclaimed dead bodies are those infiltrators who came with a particular design and got killed" .
Violence has to be stopped.
I want Manipur to be known for its rich culture and dance, Thang-Ta, and as a power house of sports, said the MLA.
80-90% sports personalities of the North East are from Mani-pur.
Meiteis are a tribe that has its own script and the ones who introduced Polo to the world, Nishikant said.
