Manipur starts with wins

ENCOURAGING AND inspiring the Sepak Takraw players of Manipur, the Governor of Manipur, His Excellency Gurbachan Jagat who grace opening ceremony of the 19th Senior National Sepak Takraw Championship 2008, as chief guest said, " Iam sure that the players of the North East states, particularly of Manipur, will represent India when thediscipline is included in the Olympic Games" .
"Therfore, it is imperative that all concerned should do everything possible to inspire, encourage ans support the players of such a game which has a great prospect of being included in the Olympic in the near future to enable them to represent India and secure more Olympic medals for our country" he added.
The championship kicked off today here at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium.
Youth Affairs and Sports and IFCD minister N.Biren presided over the opening ceremony.
Today witnessed four matches of team Regue event.
The first match of men's category was played between Nagaland and Tamil Nadu.
Nagaland beat Tamil Nadu 2-1.The scores were 18-21, 14-21 in the first regue, 21-10, 21-11 in the second regue and 21-13, 24-22 in the third regue.
Manipur team won the second match of men's category after defeating its opponent Delhi 2-0.The scores were 21-11, 21-12 in the first regue and 21-12, 21-6 in the second regue.
The first match of women's category was won by Manipur.
Manipur defeated Andhra Pradesh 2-0.The scores were 21-7, 21-16 in the first regue and 21-8, 21-5 in the second regue.
The second match was played between Nagaland and Assam.
Assam was defeated by Nagaland 3-0.The scores were 21-13, 21-9, in the first regue, 10-21, 2-11, 16-14 in the second regue and 21-15, 21-9 in the third regue.
