USA beats AIM in 55th CC Meet pre-quarters

Imphal, November 16 2011: USA, Khurai today beat AIM, Khabam Lamkhai in penalty shoot-out in their pre-quarter final match of the ongoing 55th Sir hurachand Singh, KCSI, CBE Memorial Football Tournament, 2011 played at Mapal Kangjeibung and entered the quarter final rounds.

The match began on a high note for both sides with each of them trying to dominate over one another throughout the match.

However the match concluded in a draw with the scoreline at 3-3.In the penalty shoot-out, USA netted four goals and won the match while AIM could only edge in three.

F Lalzarzo of USA drew first blood in the 16th minute of the match with a straight shot from the centre of the field.

AIM soon equalised the goal in the 36th minute which was scored by L Gouro.

The first half concluded in draw with scoreline at 1-1.In the beginning of the second half, AIM took the lead with a goal from M Robinson which was scored from a pass by his teammate Kh Naoton from the left flank in the 48th minute.

In the 59th minute, AIM was awarded a penalty against the handling of the ball by USA's Palmei Lanrailung.

The opportunity was successfully converted into goal by L Gouro of AIM extending the lead to 3-1 .

With two goals short, USA players put their best efforts to equalise the score.

As a result, Thangkhosen Haokip of USA came up with a goal in the 75th minute.

Exactly nine minutes later in the 84th minute, Haolengou Kipgen came with the equaliser which took USA at par with the scores of their opponent.

In the penalty shoot-out Haolengou Kipgen, Palmei Lanrailung, Thangkhosen Haokip and F Lalzarzo managed to hit the target while John Lalremsang Hmar missed.

On the other hand, only N Rajesh, Th Santosh and W Ngouba of AIM could hit the target while their teammates L Gouro and H Devan missed and lost the match.

In the next pre-quarter final match tomorrow at 1.30 pm, NEROCA, Sangakpham will clash with SSU, Singjamei for a berth in the quarter final round.
