KCP duo involved in abduction for ransom arrested

A combined team of Imphal West district police commandos and 30 Assam Rifles has arrested two activists of the KCP-MC (Lalumba group) along with recovering ransom money and arms from their possession.
The lalumba group is a signatory to the suspension of operation agreement signed with the Government of Manipur.
Revealing the arrest to newspersons tonight, Additional SP (Operation) of the district police Dr Ak Jhaljit said based on specific input about the abduction of Takyel Industrial Estate-based Bista packaged drinking water proprietor RK Birendra the combined team launched search operation at Luwangshangbam area in the early hours today.
The search operation led to the arrest of the outfit's Haobijam Sova alias Somen (39) of Keibul Lamjao Chingmei Mamang Leikai and his younger brother H Oken (30) at around 2.30 am, said the ASP while informing that Somen is a self styled second lieutenant of KCP-MC (Lalumba group) .
It is said that RK Birendra was abducted for ransom from his office by the Haobijam brothers along with two others whom the police officer identified as Tomba and Rakesh.
Further confiding that Birendra's car was abandoned by Oken at RIMS Hospital premises, Dr Jhaljit maintained that out of Rs 20 ransom amount served to the victim's family Rs 12 lakh had already been collected by the captors.
Informing that the brothers' share of Rs 3.50 lakhs has been recovered by the combined team, the ASP said one .9 pistol with magazine and a live round as well as an identity card of CID (Special Branch) possessed by Sova have been also been recovered.
Additional SP (Operation) Dr AK Jhaljit added that further search is on to track down all those involved in the abduction case.
