Family pension scheme for scribes mooted

IPR Minister TN Haokip has appealed to all concerned not to disturb or threaten the freedom of press/media.
Speaking as chief guest at the National Press Day observance at Manipur Press Club here today, TN Haokip appealed to all concerned to let media function freely without any disturbance.
He also called upon the media fraternity to act as the watchdog while Jan Lokpal and Lok Ayukta Bills are enacted.
The department has already submitted a memorandum to the State Government to increase the cash component of the State Journalist Award and also to introduce family pension scheme for journalists, TN Haokip stated.
In his presidential speech, AMWJU president A Mobi advised the media houses not to allow political parties influence them and publish false statements in view of the impending elections.
The main feature of the function was distribution of State Journalist Award to eight selected journalists of the State.

The journalists who were felicitated today were Khoirom Loyalakpa of Naharolgi Thoudang (Best Editor), Ng Liklaileima of The Sangai Express (Women and Child issues), S Sonia of Poknapham (Health and Hygiene), Laishram Keshonanda of Poknapham (Art and Culture), RK Manisana of Poknapham (Sports), S Johnson of Poknapham (Parliamentary Reporting) N Sanajaoba of Huieyen Lanpao (Rural Reporting) and Amukhomba of Huieyen Lanpao (Science and Technology).
A symposium on the topic "Media as an instrument of public accountability" was also held on the occasion.
The symposium moderated by Advocate Khaidem Mani was participated by former News Editor of AIR Imphal Seram Mangi and Chief Editor of ISTV Yumnam Rupachandra.
