Imphal, November 16 2011:
A man has been electrocuted and another brought to RIMS Hospital with burn injuries after a high tension power line snapped and fell on a low tension wire in between SM Giljang and Wasangphung villages under Sapermeina police station today.
It has been reported that both the HT and LT lines were strung at the said area on a single electric pole and the former snapped apparently due to prolonged use without replacement.
Upon hearing a loud blast at around 11 pm of November 15 triggered by the HT line falling on the LT line at the lower level, 35-year old Haoginthang Guite son of Letgin Guite of SM Giljang village got up to enquire.
On seeing sparks caused by the HT line snap, Haoginthang reportedly tried to disconnect his mobile phone from its charger but was electrocuted instantly.
The said incident led to the burn injuries sustained by one Henjakai Kipgen (32) s/o Henkhojang Kipgen from the adjacent Wungshangphung village, as he tried to remove an extension cord that was in flame.
Henjakai Kipgen, currently undergoing treatment at RIMS Hospital with burn injuries on the hands and legs, tried to remove the burning extension cord for he feared that the flame might
spread further.
Among others IPS (Retd) N Kipgen enquired condition of the injured Henjakai at RIMS Hospital in addition to sharing grief of the bereaved family of Haoginthang.
