YUFC, GSC post contrasting wins in 23rd Winners' Cup to spice up title race

Imphal, March 28 2019: YUFC post a slender 1-0 win against KIYC, Imphal East while GSC, Churachandpur blanked MPSC, Imphal West 3-0 in today's semi-final matches of the 23rd Thangjam Birachandra-Maipakpi Memorial Winners' Cup for Men 2019 being organised by All Manipur Football Association (on home and away basis).

Playing at TBSFA Ground, Taobungkhok, home team KIYC and visitors YUFC, Ukhrul could not make any remarkable move in the first half but Worchuipei's 57th minute strike proved worthy enough to be the winner and helped the Ukhrul side register a 1-0 lead.

MD Sabir Ali and Th Ngouba of KIYC were yellow carded respectively in the 30th and the 60th minute of the match while Worchuipei of YUFC saw the same during stoppage time (90+2) .

YUFC will host KIYC in the decisive game on March 31 at 1 pm at TNL Ground, Ukhrul.

Elsewhere, GSC, Churachandpur thrashed MPSC, Imphal West 3-0 at its home ground, Lamka Football Stadium to spice up their title run.

Playing in front of the home crowd, GSC took off the game with a bang as Boigen Neihsiel found the net early in the 2nd minute and gave his team a 1-0 lead at the break.

MPSC which had a hard first half could not pick up the pace of the game in the second half as well and it were the home side which enjoyed a total dominance in all departments.

With MPSC hardly making any resistance, K Lalrinthanga doubled GSC's lead in the 56th minute before Paokhongam Haokip made it 3-0 three minutes latter.

MPSC however tightened up their defence in the latter part of the game and successfully denied the home team from further adding to their tally.

MPSC will face YUFC in their home tie at MPTC ground, Pangei on March 31 at 1 pm .
