Miscreants reportedly burn down Salungpham High School

Salungpham High School at Salungpham Maning Leikai under Heirok Police Station in Thoubal District was reportedly set on fire by some unknown miscreants in the intervening night of March 27 and 28 .
Speaking to the media persons, Headmaster of the School, Phuritsabam Tomba said that he was informed of the incident by the chowkidar of the school at midnight yesterday and rushed to the spot to douse the flame.
It has been reported that the fire completely destroyed 7 (seven) classrooms including the Administrative Block, Science equipment, Computers and all the official documents of the school.
The fire reportedly destroyed properties worth Rs 20-30 lakh.
Information culled from the spot revealed that 3 vehicles of ThoubaI and Yairipok fire service were pressed into action to put off the fire and manage to prevent 6 (six) classrooms from complete destruction but main portion of the school were completely destroyed by the fire.
Expressing dismay at the incident, Headmaster Ph Tomba strongly condemned the dastard act of the hooligans while raising concern over the manner in which all the official documents of the schools were burnt in front of the school after it was gathered from inside the school.
He continued that two incidents of burglary to steal computers from the school was also occurred in the past.
Regarding the incident, Chowkidar Amuba said that he was having dinner yesterday night after he returned from Lai Haraoba celebration in Salungpham village.
After sometime, he heard of people screaming of large bowl of fire in the school, he added.
He also condemned the disgraceful act and described the incident as unjust towards the students community of the region which is akin to destroying the life of the students.
Students and public of the Salungpham village also staged protest demonstration in front of the school and blocked the road today to voice out their dissent against the despicable act and demanded quick action from the authority concerned to nab all the culprits involved.
A team of Heirok police led by OC conducted spot inspection and registered a case to find out the culprits.
Meanwhile, a meeting chaired by pradhan of Salungpham Kang Yambem, Phuritsabam Leibakchao was held at the ground of the school at around 8.30 am today in connection with the incident.
In the meeting, it has been resolved that all efforts will be put into place to save the academic session of the students for this year, to form a JAC regarding the incident so as to pressurise the authority concerned to book all the persons involved in the incident within three days, to launch various forms of agitation if the Govt fails to meet their demands and all the perpetrators must compensate the total loss incurred by the fire.
On the other hand, Gen Secy of DESAM Oinan Sheetal, while interacting with the media persons, vehemently condemned the burning down of school properties and classrooms of Salungpham High School in Thoubal district and urged the State Govt to arrest the culprits at the earliest.
Strongly condemning the regressive act of burning down of Salungpham High School in Thoubal district, Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) appealed the authority concerned to nab the perpetrators at the earliest.
