SUK emerge champions of 1st Manipur Players' Day Invitational Football Championship

SUK defeated KSA by 5-3 goals via tie breaker after the normal time ended in a 1-1 draw, to lift the title of the 1st Manipur Players' Day Invitational Football Championship organised by Manipur Students' Federation (MSF) under the aegis of All Manipur Football Association as a part of the Players' Day celebration at Khwai Lampak Samurou yesterday.
The celebration programme was graced by Nilakomol Singh, first Manipuri hockey Olympian; Ima Memchoubi, president, Poirei Leimarol Apunba Meira Paibi Manipur; Sorokhaibam Sanjoy; general secretary, All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation; Heisnam Kuber, Senior Citizen and Local Educationist; Ngariyanbam Milan, president MSF; Yangsosong Koireng, advisor All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation and Ima Memcha, vice president Poirei Leimarol Apunba Meira Paibi Manipur as presidium member.
The speakers on the occasion highlighted the role of the players in making Manipur proud and known to the world.
Remembering February 25, 1999, the day in which Manipur emerged the overall team champions of Vth National Games and claimed the Raja Bhalendra Singh Trophy, the speakers paid respect to all Athletes in the State who brought home medals and glory in many events and championship held at National and International events.
The speakers also stressed on the need of maintaining strict discipline among the youths and opt sports as an option to refrain themselves from all kinds of intoxicants and the evils resulting out of it.
The tournament began on February 22 featuring 6 Students' organisation teams with the objective of making a healthy Manipur and to commemorate Players' Day, said a press release of MSF.
