2nd Soldong Valing Sports Meet : ASDMU clinch football title, ASWC-MU emerge volleyball winners

Anal Students DMU survived a late charge from AMKA FC to claim the men's football title while ASWC-MU were crowned men's volleyball champions at the 2nd edition of Soldong Valing Sports Meet organised by Anal Youth Fellowship, Imphal at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex since November 7 .
ASDMU enjoyed a huge 3-1 lead in the first half riding on Phowlngam and Ningphahman after Nohrin of AMKA FC managed to hit the opener in the 9th minute.
Phowlingam of ASDMU equalised the score in the 11th minute before Ningphahman had his brace in a span of three minutes (16', 18') to give ASDMU a 3-1 lead in the first half.
The second half saw AMKA FC desperately trying to cut the goal deficit while ASDMU sat back and attacked mostly in counter.
AMKA's efforts paid off late in the 75th minute when Gladson sneaked into ASDMU's box after a concerted move around the edge.
They struggled hard to level the score in the last few minutes but ASDMU defence easily soaked up the pressure and prevented AMKA FC from disturbing the scoreline and eventually lifted the title with a 3-2 win.
HL Rolland and Phathungam of ASDMU were named best player and best goalkeeper while Ningphahman of the same team emerged to scorer of the tournament.
Earlier in the first semi-final, AMKA FC managed a 4-2 win over ABYFI to book the final berth.
Gladson (6'), Nohrin (56'), RD Wolni (73') and Jacob (80') scored for AMKA while Shelpa (61') and Genileson (78') scored for the losing side.
In another semi-final tie, ASDMU and Ruwngkhu Avengers played out a goalless draw during regulation time and the winners were decided via penalties wherein, HL Rolland, Ningphahman and Jakhawar slotted home the balls to hand ASDMU a 3-1 win.
NL Thumtha was the only player who dispatched the ball into the net for Ruwngkhu Avengers in the shoot-out.
Volleyball for Men and Women
The first semifinal match of the men's volleyball competition saw Challengers outlast Church Deacon by 3-2 sets in a hard fought match.
Challengers had a stuttering start before losing the fourth set but managed to return in the deciding set to seal the semi-final spot with 21-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-25, 15-11 win.
In the second semi-final match, ASWC-MU edged out AMKA by 3-1 sets.
AMKA got the first set in their names but ASW-MU fought back stronger to wrap up the game 22-25, 25-23, 25-13, 25-23 to book the final berth.
In the final clash, ASWC-MU prevailed over Challengers to notch up 3-0 sets (25-21, 25-16, 25-16) win for the ultimate title.
In the women's volleyball final showdown, Ruwngkhu Avengers had an easy straight sets win (25-9, 25-19, 25-19) over Employee's team and lifted the title trophy.
