After sprinter M Priya Devi set the Indira Gandhi Stadium track ablaze capping her long jump gold with glories in the women�s 100 and 200 metre finals yesterday the third day of the 20th North East Sports Festival here saw fellow athlete Th Sanjit emulating the triple gold feat with the top prize in 10,000 metres today.
Sanjit won the men�s long district race in 33:44.30 seconds to add to his yellow metal collections in the 5000 and 1500 metre competition yesterday.
With the addition of 24 gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze medals today Manipur medal haul in the competition has spiraled to 39 gold, 24 silver and 22 bronze.
The most outstanding performance of the third day came from the women wrestlers who made a clean sweep of all the seven top titles on offer.
The gold winners are L Ranjana (48 kgs), Kh Uma (51), N Dhana (55), N Nonibala (59), N Tombi (63), L Kiran Chanu (67) and S Premita (72).However, expectation from the State mat-men to garner most, if not all of the gold medals, suffered a minor setback as only three made to the top podium finishes followed by three silvers and a bronze medal in the same event.
The gold medallists are N Rabi (50 kgs), N Premjit (55) and N Joyprakash (60).The handball team made amends for the men�s wrestling hiccup wresting both the men�s and women�s title.
The women�s competition in 10,000 metres saw Manipur concede the top position to their rivals as Ch Sonia and N Ibengoubi had to be content with the silver and bronze medal respectively.
In football competition, State eves lived upto their reputation trouncing Sikkim 18-0 in the final played today while in men�s hockey Manipur pipped Mizoram 4-3.Taekwondo players improved prospect of State contingent�s championship race with four gold medals, a silver and one bronze each in different categories.
S Surbala won the women�s fly division with com- patriot RK Diana coming out triumphant in the fea-ther weight class as Kumarjit Heisnam (bantam) and K Roshni (welter) out-scored their respective rivals in men�s finals.
The silver medal was fetched by S Ojit in fly weight and the bronze coming through S Ching-khei in the featherweight contest.
Other results featuring Manipur players on the penultimate day are as follows: Athletics: K Apurna won women�s discuss with a hurl of 30.95 metres; Th Gobin raced to 800 metres men�s gold in 2:05.03 secs.; 400 mtr men�s gold by Ch Chitaranjan (50.50 secs), bronze - Th Gobin (52:70 secs); L Sandhyarani women�s 800 mtrs - bronze (2:34.06 secs); M Arundhati - women�s shot bronze (9.52 metres); S Somorjit - triple jump bronze (13 metres).
Archery: L Saphaba hit 341 points in 30 metres FITA round men�s individual event to win the gold as Y Sanahal (322) bagged bronze while FITA round team (women) event trio of SP Lydia, Y Tombisana and H Bandana totalled 3138 points to finish third.
Sanahal and Saphaba also combined with L Ra-jesh and W Subhash to se- cure silver medal in FITA round event with a score of 3477 points.
Badminton: N Nandaku-mar and S Rameshwori respectively clinched the men and women�s singles titles.
Rameshori, T Bina, RK Miranda and S Sorojini also secured the team event bronze medal.
The men�s quartet of Nandakumar, H Kisan, RK Toponkumar and L Pralhada had bagged the silver medal yesterday.
Hockey: The women�s hockey team was surprised by Mizoram eves in the final as the latter won 3-2.
