Host Manipur continues its winning run and stormed into the semi-final of 11th Sub-Junior Under-16 National Hockey Championship after defeating Andhra Pradesh 10-1 in the quarter-final played today.
Manipur will clash with Himachal Pradesh in the semi-final to be played tomorrow at 2.00 pm.
In the lung opener, Manipur defeated Himachal 7-1 in the group league round.
In the other quarter-finals match played today Himachal Pradesh thrash Chandigarh 4-2 while Punjab overcame Orissa 3-2 after the latter protested at the referee decision and Uttar Pradesh beat Namdiar 7-6 in tie-breaker.
In a one-sided match, the host team outplayed AP in every department of the game with their fast paced move and agility.
Out of five penalty corners awarded to Manipur, it could convert only two goals.
The host also scored a penalty stroke.
In reply to Manipur attack AP could manage only one goal in reply.
AP could not convert any goal out of three penalty corners awarded to it.
N Abung four goals in the 3rd, 17th, 21st and 25th minute, K Chinglen in 2nd minute, L Bikram and Th Manjit brace in 8th and 24th minute and 29th and 39th minute respectively and L Herojit�s penalty stroke in the 69th minute complete the scorecard of Manipur.
The lone face-saving goal for AP was scored by S Rameshkrishnan in the 7th minute.
In the Orissa and Punjab match, Orissa protested and left the field when the referee awarded a goal to the latter following a strike at the goal which hit the net.
The two teams were leveled at 2-2.The Orissa players protested at the referee decision.
However the referee maintained that the ball hit the net after it deflected from the sticks of Orissa�s defender and went high.
At this Orissa players protested and left the field.
In an evenly contested match between Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh, HP could convert only one goal out of five awarded in favour.
On the other hand Chandigarh failed to convert any penalty corner from three awarded in favour of it.
Uttar Pradesh got the better of Namdiar when it defeated the latter in the tie-breaker after both team were locked at 1-1 at the end of regulation time.
At the first penalty shoot-out, both the team were leveled at 4-4 and second round have to be held in which UP got the better of Namdiar and defeated by 7-6.
