In yet another significant breakthrough of preventing funds landing at the hands of underground outfit/s, a team of Imphal West district police seized Rs 9.20 lakhs during raid at Babina Clinic today and arrested five persons in connection with the case.
Mention may be made that Imphal West district police had recently cracked alleged underground outfit-Food Corporation of India (FCI) link with the seizure of huge quantity of rice consignment meant for diversion to an underground organisation and arrested eight employees.
Speaking to mediapersons the Imphal west Superintendent of Police S Ibocha said based on specific information he personally supervised the raid at the clinic located along RIMS Road affecting the seizure of the huge amount and arrest of five persons.
Detailing the raid, Ibocha said the money collected for payment to underground outfit was recovered from the manager�s room of the Clinic from where the five persons were also picked up.
Responding to query from the news-persons, the SP said identity of the arrested persons cannot be disclosed as it could hamper investigation while conveying that a police case had been registered and process on to establish for which UG group the amount was collected.
Declining further information on which act will be applied against the arrested persons the SP nevertheless confirmed that the seized amount were collected from different private clinics.
According to press sources, the seized amount might have been collected from Shija Hospital, Leirik Memorial Hospital, Babina Clinic, Chamber of Commerce, Imphal Hospital, Adarsh Laboratory, city Dental Clinic, Padma Clinic, Mona Clinic and Raj Polytechnic.
The source also revealed the identity of the arrested persons as Kh Shamochandra, Ch Surendra, B Bishworjit Sharma, W Devkishore, W Devtishore and Vikas Basnet.
On the other hand, the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh presided a meeting that centred around the arrest of eight FCI, Imphal employees today.
When contacted the DGP AK Parashar informed that the meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh, the Imphal West SP and himself.
Parashar further said investigation is on to gather more information in the rice diversion case and any other individual found involved in the matter will be booked under relevant act.
