Competitions in the locally flavoured International Tent Pegging Championship got underway at the Imphal Pologround with India B team riders bagging the two gold medals on offer today.
Inspite of organisers trumpeting the Championship as an international competition participants of some countries are being made up of local riders owing to reasons best known and kept a closely guarded secret by the hosts.
After a colourful opening ceremony yesterday where the State's rich culture and tradition were exhibited to the few foreign entrants, actual competition began today with Jagdish Singh of India B culling 35.5 points for the top podium finish in the tent pegging individual lance event followed by India A's Jaswinder Singh in second position on 33 points as Al Dep Ali of Oman occupied the third spot with a tally of 22 points.
India B claimed the second gold of the day when Om Prakash tallied 29.5 points in the individual tent pegging rings & peg (2 run) competition relegating team-mate Jagdish Singh (28) to second position.
Md Kamis of Oman secured the bronze on 24 points same as Syeed Mohammed (Oman) but with a better timing in completing the course/obstacle.
