An NGO working on HIV/AIDS bore the wrath of local people after two of its volunteers brought nine children from Mahabali Kabui village for blood test at a VCCTC today.
It is reported that the volunteers conducted blood test of the children without the knowledge of their parents.
According to the villagers, one of the volunteers was an former drug abuser.
As the two volunteers brought back the children in an auto-rickshaw, one of the children cried out.
On being enquired, the child disclosed that blood samples were taken from them.
The NGO volunteers also gave the children Rs 90 each besides instructing them to speak tribal dialect and to say that they came from Chandel at the VCCTC.
Then the villagers rounded up the duo but before any untoward incident took place, police arrived and pulled up some functionaries of the NGO.
Another volunteer of the NGO claimed they went to Mahabali Kabui village to extend help to children of drug user parents after conducting pro-active identification (test to ascertain whether they are HIV infected or not) .
