Critics Forum, Manipur organised a felicitation function cum 150th birth anniversary celebration of Rabindranath Tagore at Manipur Dramatic Union hall today.
Awardees Rajkumar Bidur, Wareppa Naba and founder Secretary of the Forum, Prof Nongmaithem Tombi were feted in the function.
Rajkumar Bidur won Best Critic Award in the 56th National Film Award 2010 and Wareppa Naba got the prestigious Natya Bhushan Award 2010 of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, while N Tombi has been recently appointed as the Vice-Chairman of JN Manipur Dance Academy by Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi.
Speaking at the occasion, Prof Nongmaithem Tombi remembered the works and achievements of Rabindranath Tagore.Maintaining that Rabindranath Tagore was a world famous poet, he expressed surprise why the State Govt is not celebrating his birth anniversary in the State.
Remembering the great poet as a patron of Manipuri dance and culture, Tombi said that Manipuri dance was taught to Bengali women during the time of Rabindranath Tagore.
