Imphal, January 27 2010:
Sainik School Imphal celebrated the 61st Republic Day in the School premises with enthusiasm and fervour.
The national tricolour was unfurled by Group Captain Surinder Singh, Principal of the school followed by pledge taking by the cadets.
In his address, the Principal reminded the cadets about supreme sacrifices made by great freedom fighters.
He advised the cadets to evolve a new work culture and transcend the barrier of caste, creed and religion and to bring honour to the country.
He also pipped Mr L Manoranjan Roy, Asst Master in Gen Science of the school to the rank of Third Officer as an Associate NCC Officer.
This was followed by a "Barakhana" and sweets distribution.
A contingent of 70 Cadets and school band participated in the Republic Day celebration held at 1st Manipur Rifles where His Excellency Shri Gurbachan Jagat, Governor of Manipur took the salute, said a press release from the PRO PIB (Defence Wing).
