Imphal, January 27 2010:
Is it the beginning of another phase of Zeliangrong impasse? .
The All Zeliangrong Students' Union (AZSU) has termed the Zeliangrong Interim Body (ZIB) as a failed platform and cautioned the latter to shun all its activities once its tenure gets over on January 31 .
The apex Zeliangrong students' body alleged that the ZIB was constituted at the Zeliangrong Public Convention on October 30 last year in Tamenglong and one main task entrusted to the ZIB was to decide the name of nomenclature for the community by January 31, 2010.But instead, the ZIB has called a meeting on February 12 at Dimapur.
It is worth noting that the heightening feud between the Zeliangrong Union (ZU) and the Zeliangrong Baudi (ZB) had prompted the Zeliangrong people to organise the public convention in Tamenglong last year.
Meanwhile, the AZSU said today that after January 31 all the activities of the ZIB will be considered as null and void as its tenure gets over after the deadline.
"We, the All Zeliangrong Students' Union (AZSU) and the former student leaders who represent the voice of the Zeliangrong youth and upcoming generation wholeheartedly welcome and appreciate the decision of Zeliangrong Public Convention held on October 30, 2009 in Tamenglong.
Since then, the AZSU has been closely monitoring the initiative of ZIB as mandated by the said public convention keeping in mind the interest of the Zeliangrong public.
AZSU as the vanguard of the unity and integrity of the Zeliangrong people would always stand by the philosophy and principle of the indestructible bond of blood and kinship of the Zeliangrong people.
However, till date the AZSU has learnt that the ZIB is not taking the necessary steps and measures entrusted to it as per the resolution No III of the Zeliangrong Public Convention.
Moreover, the ZIB has not been able to decide as what name the new apex body shall be called, whether Zeliangrong Baudi or Zeliangrong Union.
Therefore, AZSU is compelled to conclude that the ZIB has failed to put in place a duty and democratically elected executive council and decide a name.
Whether Baudi or Union for the new apex body of Zeliangrong people by January 31, 2010," said the AZSU.
The apex Zeliangrong students' body also said that the ZIB's sponsored convention to be held on February 12, 2010 at the Town Hall, Dimapur lacks legitimacy as the tenure of the ZIB expires on January 31 and whatever decisions taken by ZIB beyond that will be considered null and void.
"The AZSU while emphasizing the need to another public convention to work out the modalities to resolve the outstanding issues in order to strengthen the unity and integrity of the Zeliangrong, the present Zeliangrong Interim Body (ZIB) should refrain from undertaking any step beyond the mandate given by the Zeliangrong Public Convention held on October 30, 2009 in Tamenglong.
Moreover, the AZSU would like to question the rational behind to conduct election of president, vice president and other officials of the central executive of the apex body because electoral process take time to complete according to procedural norms of election and it is not feasible to have election during the public convention without constituting the election committee and notification.
The ZIB and its convenor has not been able to carry out the power and function entrusted by the Zeliangrong Public Convention within the stipulated time 90 days and the term expires on January 31, 2010 and their role cease to exist," it said.
